Selection criteria – essential

 Extensive experience in designing, building, and presenting Power BI model and reports, with

demonstrated skills in the use of DAX and Power Query.

 Proven experience in User Experience design.

 Familiarity with enterprise data warehousing.

 Demonstrated ability to investigate, develop and deliver high quality enterprise scale

solutions.

 Proven ability to understand user requirements and make data understandable through the

use of visual reports.

 Experience with writing SQL queries in relational databases such as Oracle.

 Excellent written and visual communication skills.

Selection criteria – desirable

 Qualifications in Power BI and/or user design.

 Demonstrated experience working with enterprise data warehousing environments.

 Demonstrated ability to develop complex solutions that integrate technologies in a seamless

and robust manner.

 Exposure to an Agile software development methodology.

 Exposure to Oracle relational databases.

 Experience training and mentoring staff.

 An understanding of testing methodologies.

 Knowledge of the current university and tertiary education sector.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities

Report design and data presentation

 Design, build, and enhance reports using Microsoft Power BI.

 Provide an intuitive interface and positive user experience with clear data presentation.

 Work with the Enterprise Data Warehouse team to ensure data is integrated correctly and

presented clearly and accurately.

 Perform testing to ensure accuracy and reliability of reports.

Project delivery

 Work with the Enterprise Data Warehouse team to meet project deliverables and deadlines

for the 2024 EDW Programme of Work.

 Adhere to data governance, privacy, and security requirements.

 Collaborate with the wider Strategy and Planning Group, Te Tai Matihiko - Digital Solutions,

and other key stakeholders across the University.

 Engage with report users to ensure reports meet the design brief and user requirements.

Continuous improvement

 Establish appropriate design principles to ensure reports are effective, efficient, engaging,

consistent and accessible.

 Review existing reports and look for opportunities for enhancement.

 Maintain and tune reports for performance and ease of use.

 Help support and maintain the Power BI environment to ensure its smooth ongoing operation.

 Stay up to date with industry trends and product enhancements to maximise the University’s

use of the Power BI platform.


Documentation and training

 Create and maintain fit-for-purpose report notes and documentation.

 Share knowledge and help upskill the team in User Experience design and the use of Power

BI.

 Provide training and handover to ensure a smooth transition, and the successful ongoing

upkeep and use of the Power BI environment.

Key relationships

The Power BI Specialist will develop and maintain excellent working relationships with staff in the

Enterprise Data Warehouse team. The Power BI Specialist will also work with the wider Strategy and

Planning group, Te Tai Matihiko - Digital Solutions staff, University trainers, and other stakeholders

from across the University as required to perform effectively in the position.
